Backing it up.
I was fighting with my original shading for. . .I don’t know how long, trying to get the shading to look right. Finally I gave up and started over.
Took a hint from Eloh Eliot, and started giving layer modes some love. Now it sounds obvious, but I wasn’t into the tint of the shadows/highlights when I first flipped through the psd. I’m still drawing from scratch, though. I also know I might have to play with opacity, since I dumped it in SLCP, and. . .high-contrast is a good way to describe it. Obviously I’ll need to do in-world testing, but the idea is at least in the back of my mind.
Still, with only the lower half of the nose “done” (I know for a fact I’ll poke at the shading and/or highlights later, but it’s good enough to sit for a while) I love it a lot more than what I had maybe three hours ago.
Starting with a whimper.
So, (First) Life Happened. I did get some rough face shadows sketched in, and started sculpting in the nose, though.
On the other hand, I just dropped almost L$200 on hair. Oops.
Tired, so that’s that.
